Worldbound (“Worldbound”, “we”, “us”) operates the AI roleplay service at worldboundai.com. These three policies — Terms of Service, Privacy Policy and Refund Policy — govern your use of the service. By creating an account or using Worldbound, you agree to them.
Terms of Service
1. Eligibility — you must be 18 or older
Worldbound is an adult platform. User-created worlds and AI-generated stories may contain mature themes. You must be at least 18 years old and legally able to enter a contract. If you are under 18, do not use the service. We terminate accounts we believe belong to minors.
2. Your account
Accounts are created and secured through our authentication provider. You are responsible for your credentials and for everything that happens on your account. Give accurate information, keep your email current, and tell us promptly about unauthorised use. One person, one account; don’t share or sell accounts.
3. What the service is
Worldbound generates interactive fiction using large language models. Everything the AI produces is fiction generated by software. It can be inaccurate, inconsistent, offensive, or plainly wrong, and it is never advice — medical, legal, financial, psychological or otherwise. Don’t rely on it as fact. We don’t pre-screen generated output.
4. Credits, plans and payment
- 1 credit = 1 turn. A turn is one message you send and the reply it generates.
- New accounts get a limited number of free trial turns. Free turns are used before purchased credits.
- Credits can be bought as one-time packs or granted monthly by a subscription.
- Credits are a limited, personal, non-transferable licence to use the service. They are not money, not a stored-value instrument, carry no cash value, and cannot be exchanged, sold, or transferred between accounts.
- Subscriptions renew automatically at the stated interval until you cancel. You can cancel at any time from the billing portal; cancellation stops future renewals.
- Prices, credit amounts and turn costs may change. Changes apply to future purchases and renewals, never retroactively to credits you already hold.
- Payments are processed by Stripe. We never receive or store your full card details. Prices are in USD and exclude any taxes that may apply to you.
Refunds are covered by the Refund Policy below.
5. Using your own API key (BYOK)
You may connect your own model provider key instead of spending credits. If you do: turns run against your account with that provider, you pay them directly, you are bound by their terms, and we don’t charge you credits. We transmit your prompts to the endpoint you configure, on your instruction. We are not responsible for that provider’s availability, charges, content policies, or how they handle your data.
6. Your content and who owns it
You keep ownership of the campaigns, lorebooks, characters, personas and messages you create. You grant us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to store, process, transmit, reproduce and display that content solely to operate and improve the service — including sending it to model providers to generate replies. If you publish a campaign or profile, you also grant us and other users the right to display and play it. You can revoke this by deleting the content or your account, except where we must retain it by law.
You are responsible for your content and must have the rights to it. Don’t upload things you don’t own or have permission to use.
7. Acceptable use — what you may not do
The following are strictly prohibited and will result in immediate termination:
- Any sexual content involving minors, real or fictional, in any form — including characters described, implied, or depicted as under 18. This is a zero-tolerance rule. We remove it, terminate the account, and report it to the authorities where required.
- Sexual or intimate content depicting real, identifiable people without their consent.
- Content that is illegal, promotes terrorism or mass violence, or provides genuine instructions for weapons, drugs, or serious crime.
- Harassment, threats, hate speech targeting protected characteristics, doxxing, or impersonating a real person or Worldbound staff.
- Malware, scraping, automated abuse, probing or circumventing security, rate limits, turn caps, payment, or moderation systems.
- Reselling credits or access, or using the service to build a competing model or dataset.
We may remove content, restrict features, or suspend or terminate accounts that breach these rules — with notice where practical, immediately where the harm is serious.
8. Third-party AI processing
To generate replies we transmit your prompts and relevant chat context to third-party model providers. Their handling of that data is governed by their own terms and privacy policies. See the Privacy Policy for detail.
9. Our intellectual property
The Worldbound name, software, design, and the worlds we ship with the service are ours or our licensors’. These Terms don’t transfer any of it to you. If you send us feedback or suggestions, we may use them freely without obligation to you.
10. Copyright complaints
If you believe content on Worldbound infringes your copyright, contact us (below) with the work, the URL, your contact details, and a statement that you’re authorised to act. We remove infringing material and terminate repeat infringers.
11. Availability, disclaimers and liability
The service is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind to the fullest extent the law allows. We don’t promise uninterrupted or error-free operation, that content will be to your taste, or that data will never be lost — keep your own copies of anything important (you can export your data at any time).
To the fullest extent permitted by law, our total liability for any claim relating to the service is limited to the greater of (a) the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim, or (b) USD 100. We are not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential losses, or for lost profits or data. Nothing here excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded, including your statutory consumer rights.
12. Indemnity
You agree to indemnify us against claims, damages and reasonable costs arising from your content, your use of the service, or your breach of these Terms.
13. Termination
You may stop using Worldbound and delete your account at any time from Account settings. We may suspend or terminate access for breach of these Terms or where required by law. Unused credits are forfeited if we terminate your account for a serious breach (for example the prohibited content above); otherwise see the Refund Policy.
14. Changes
We may update these Terms. Material changes will be notified in the app or by email before they take effect. Continuing to use the service after that means you accept the new Terms.
15. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the jurisdiction in which the operator of Worldbound is established, without regard to conflict-of-law rules, and you agree to the exclusive jurisdiction of its courts — except where mandatory consumer-protection law in your country of residence gives you the right to bring proceedings locally.
Privacy Policy
This explains what we collect, why, who we share it with, and what control you have.
1. What we collect
- Account data — email address, username, display name, and authentication records, handled through our authentication provider. We never see your password.
- Content you create — chat messages, campaigns, lorebooks, characters, personas, comments, reviews, and images you upload.
- Usage data — turn counts, approximate token sizes, timestamps, credit balance and ledger entries, and which features you use.
- Billing data — a payment-processor customer reference, purchase and subscription records, and credit grants. We do not receive or store your card number — Stripe handles that.
- Technical data — IP address, browser/user-agent, and server logs, used for security, abuse prevention and debugging.
- Your model API key, if you choose to connect one (BYOK). It is stored so we can make requests on your behalf, and is never shown back to you in full or shared.
2. How we use it
To run the service and generate your stories; to authenticate you; to bill you and track credits; to keep the platform safe (moderation, abuse and fraud prevention); to provide support; to fix and improve the product; and to meet legal obligations. Where the GDPR applies, our legal bases are performance of our contract with you, our legitimate interests in operating and securing the service, your consent where we ask for it, and compliance with law.
Important — your chat content is sent to an AI provider. To produce a reply, the text of your messages and the relevant context (your campaign, character sheet and matching lorebook entries) is transmitted to a third-party large-language-model provider. If you use your own key (BYOK), it goes to the provider you configured, under their terms. Don’t put real personal secrets, credentials, or other sensitive information into your chats.
3. Who we share it with
We don’t sell your personal data or use it for third-party advertising. We share only with service providers who process it on our behalf:
- Authentication provider — accounts, sign-in, email verification.
- Stripe — payment processing and subscription billing.
- Model provider(s) — prompt and context text, to generate replies.
- Hosting provider — servers, storage and logs.
We may also disclose data where legally required, to enforce our Terms, or to protect the rights and safety of users or the public — including reporting prohibited content to authorities.
4. Content you make public
If you publish a campaign, set a public profile, or post comments and reviews, that content and your display name are visible to others and may appear in Discover. Don’t put anything there you wouldn’t want public. Private chats are not public.
5. Retention
We keep your account and content while your account exists. Deleting content removes it from the service; deleting your account removes your content and personal data, except records we must keep for legal, tax, accounting or fraud-prevention reasons (for example payment records) and anonymised or aggregated statistics that can’t identify you. Server logs are kept for a limited period for security and debugging.
6. Your rights and controls
- Export — download your data from Account settings at any time.
- Delete — delete individual content, or your whole account, from Account settings.
- Access, correction, restriction, objection and portability — available on request; several are self-service in the app.
- If you’re in the EEA/UK you may complain to your local data-protection authority. If you’re in California, we don’t sell or share personal information as those terms are defined, and we don’t discriminate against you for exercising your rights.
To exercise anything not self-service, contact us using the details below.
7. Cookies and local storage
We use a session cookie or token to keep you signed in, and your browser’s local storage for preferences (such as theme). We don’t use third-party advertising or cross-site tracking cookies. Our authentication and payment providers set cookies necessary for their functions.
8. Children
Worldbound is for adults only (18+). We don’t knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe a minor has an account, contact us and we will remove it.
9. International transfers and security
Our providers may process data in countries other than yours, including the United States, with appropriate safeguards where required. We protect data with encryption in transit, hashed credentials, access controls and sanitisation of user-authored HTML — but no online service can be perfectly secure, and we can’t guarantee absolute security.
10. Changes
We’ll update this policy as the service changes and revise the date at the top. Material changes will be notified in the app or by email.
Refund Policy
Credits are digital goods delivered immediately. This policy explains exactly when you get your money back — we’d rather be clear up front than argue later.
1. Something went wrong on our end — always refunded
If you were charged and your credits didn’t arrive, you were charged twice, or a technical fault on our side stopped you using what you paid for, we will make it right: we’ll add the missing credits or refund you in full. Just contact us with your receipt.
2. Credit packs (one-time purchases)
- Unused credits: refundable in full within 14 days of purchase.
- Partly used: within 14 days we will refund the unused portion, pro-rata.
- Used credits are not refundable — the AI compute for those turns has already been bought and spent on your behalf.
3. Subscriptions
- Cancel any time from the billing portal. Cancellation stops all future renewals.
- You keep access and any credits already granted for the period you’ve paid for.
- We don’t give partial refunds for an unused part of a billing period, except as required by law or under section 1 above.
- If a renewal charged you unexpectedly and you haven’t used any of that period’s credits, contact us within 14 days and we’ll refund it.
4. EU/UK right of withdrawal
Consumers in the EEA and UK normally have 14 days to withdraw from a distance purchase. Because credits are digital content supplied immediately, when you buy you ask us to start supplying straight away and acknowledge that you lose the right of withdrawal to the extent the credits have been used. Any unused credits remain refundable within 14 days as set out above. This does not affect your other statutory rights.
5. Free trial
Free trial turns cost nothing and there is nothing to refund. Running out of free turns is not grounds for a refund of a later purchase.
6. Bring-your-own-key usage
If you run turns on your own provider key, that provider bills you directly and we receive nothing — we cannot refund those charges. Contact your provider.
7. Abuse, fraud and chargebacks
We may decline refunds where we reasonably suspect abuse — for example repeatedly buying, consuming and reclaiming credits. Accounts terminated for a serious breach of the Terms (such as prohibited content) forfeit unused credits and are not refunded. If you raise a chargeback instead of contacting us, we may suspend the account until it’s resolved; please talk to us first, it’s faster.
8. How to request a refund
Email us (below) from your account’s email address with the approximate date and amount, or your Stripe receipt. We aim to respond within a few business days. Approved refunds go back to the original payment method; your bank may take a further 5–10 business days to show it.
